The desire to paint has always come from wanting to capture and hold on to beauty. Over the years, this desire has been expressed in traditional landscapes, still lifes and portraits, but has evolved to focusing on the horse. For me, they epitomize grace, elegance and explosive power. There is a kindness and generosity of spirit in their eyes, that I hope I capture. Painting horses offers as many challenges as painting the human figure, in terms of the nuance captured in the details, and the infinite variety of expressions and possible poses. The large scale of the paintings not only serves to accentuate their power, but also brings the viewer into a more intimate connection with that horse, in that moment. Sharing a part of my daily life with them, has truly been a gift. A gift that begs to be shared.
